MACABRE. METAPHYSICAL. METAMORPHOSIS. 

THE TEMPERAMENTAL BEAUTY OF SCANOGRAPHY, INTERWOVEN SUBTLETY + AMBIGUITY. 

AN EPHEMERAL + FLEETING IMPRINT CAPTURED IN A NUMBER OF SECONDS, MANIPULATING MOVEMENT + MORPHING CONTORTIONS. 

THE AIM OF THE SERIES WAS TO EMULATE A VISCERAL EERIENESS, OPAQUE OBSCURITY, PARADOXICAL POLARITIES OF ART VS SCIENCE - I WANTED THE SERIES TO FEEL EMPIRICAL;  ALMOST BIOLOGICAL AND ANATOMICAL, HOWEVER JUXTAPOSED WITH A SURREALIST UNDERTONE.  POSSESSING THE POETRY FOUND IN NATURAL OBJECTS, ALONG WITH PERPLEXING + CONVOLUTED COMPOSITIONS THAT POSESS A DARK + OMINOUS BEAUTY.

EVER FASCINATED WITH THE MACABRE, MYSTICISM + MORPHING THESE AESTHETICS INTO ALCHEMICAL CREATIONS + PROCESSES OF SILVERSMITHING - THESE IMAGES ARE ALMOST LIKE A DECONSTRUCTED GRADIENT OF THAT PROCESS,  INTURN IT WAS BOTH CATHARTIC + TRANSFORMATIVE TO HAND OVER ONE SET OF MEDIUMS AND MATERIALS FOR THE DIGITAL.

THERE IS COHESIVENESS IN THE MERCURIAL BEAUTY OF THE OBJECTS SELECTED - THE LUMINOUS PYRITE SPECIMENS FOR EXAMPLE, CHOSEN FOR THEIR LUSTRE + COSMIC CONNOTATION. TEETH, SYMBOLISING REBIRTH + THE CYCLIC NATURE OF THE UNIVERSE. HANDS, CRÁNEO, MINERALS, + ARGENTUM. THEY ARE ALL TALISMANIC OBJECTS + AMULETS OF TRANSCENDENTAL MYSTERY. 

IN THE FINAL PRINTING STAGES OF FINALISING THIS BODY OF WORK, I FELT THERE WAS AN UNSPOKEN LIGHTNESS THAT WAS MISSING. THERE WAS SUCH DEPTH OF EXPERIMENT WITH SCANOGRAPHY, AND THIS VERY COHESIVE ALL BLACK + HIGHLIGHTED OBJECT AESTHETIC - ALTHOUGH INTRICATE IN PROCESS + CURATION, THERE NEEDED TO BE A YING TO THE YANG. THERE WAS A SUBTLE MORPHIC COLOUR SPECTRUM PEEKING THROUGH ONE OF THE IMAGES - IMAGE #7 - HAND WITH RING + HAIR. - THIS IS WHERE I DREW THE BASIS OF THE NEW COLOUR PALETTE.

..A VERY TEXTURAL + LUCID SCAN WITH A PIECE OF LINEN, BECAME THE NEXT PIGMENTED ADDITION TO THE FINAL SERIES, ALONG WITH THE SCAN OF A PORCELAIN WHITE FINGER, LAYERED + COLLAGED ONTO A SOOTY OLIVE GREY CANVAS.

PETRICHOR (/ˈpɛtrɪkɔːr/) IS THE EARTHLY SCENT ALCHEMISED WHEN WET RAIN FALLS TO DRY SOIL.  THE WORD IS CONSTRUCTED FROM GREEK πέτρα PETRA, MEANING 'STONE', + īchōr, THE FLUID THAT FLOWS IN THE VEINS OF THE GODS IN GREEK MYTHOLOGY. 

I SELECTED 10 FROM THIS COLLECTION OF 14 IMAGES, TO EXHIBIT IN A WHITE WALLED WAREHOUSE SPACE FOR THE WELCOMING OF A NEW BESPOKE GALLERY SPACE, IN PRESTON ESTABLISHED BY MY FRIEND’S ‘CLAN COLLECTIVE’. I CURATED THE FINAL INSTAL BELOW, CENTERING THE LAYOUT AROUND BALANCE, FLUIDITY OF FORM + CYCLIC COLOUR FLOW.  COUNTERBALANCING THE HEAVILY BLACK DOMINANT PIECES IN THE SERIES WITH THE POSITIONING OF THE LIGHTER GREY'S + GREEN'S. LEAVING A 3.5CM MARGIN BETWEEN EACH PIECE - JUST ENOUGH NEGATIVE SPACE, ALLOWING THE EYE TO ORGANICALLY FLOW THROUGH THE INSTALLATION.
